If you know me you probably know about my love-hate relationship with my ipod. My sweet brother bought me my first ipod for Christmas in 2003 and my life has not been the same since. Mostly because I know I will never again be able to go back to the portable CD player and be stuck with just a handful of songs. I love the idea of having all my music in my pocket, and podcasts and even a subway map.
Unfortunately I seem to have some bad mo-jo that tends to F*** with ipods. My first ipod had to be sent back three times before the battery finally died the first year. I opted to buy a new one rather than replace the battery, and my second ipod lasted exactly one year and one day past the one year warranty before the hard drive went kerplewie. I know I should have gotten apple care. But I was careless. Too involved in burglaries and new apartments. As much as I was tired of the constant problems I didn’t last twenty-four hours before I had to buy a new one. I think ipods are over priced and still a little delicate, but I’m an addict. I admit it.
Now I have the video ipod with all the bells and whistles. I was perfectly happy with the first one. But it’s nice to know that should I ever be stuck in an elevator I’ll be able to watch The Insider or the Sixth Sense.
I have a favorite play list that contains about 300 songs and I tend to play the volume a little too loud. Which means that everyone on the Q-Train can probably hear what I’m listening to. My tastes are pretty eclectic. A lot of Damien Rice, Tori Amos, Billy Joel, Ambulance LTD., Snow Patrol, Tom Waits etc. but some of it I have to admit is pretty nerdy. I’m a child of the 70’s and 80’s and sometimes when I drink too much I’ll buy a lot of disco hits on itunes. So many mornings my fellow commuters are treated to the muffle sound of: (to name just a few)
MacArthur Park-Donna Summer
Gonna Fly Now-Theme Song to Rocky
Solitare-Laura Branigan
One thing Leads to Another-The Fixx
The Real Slim Shady-Eminem
Yes. It's true.. I love Eminem.
